At globaldev we are huge proponents of giving back to the the development community that we're all a part of, and as strong believers in putting our money where our mouth is, Global Personals have decided to sponsor this year's BarCamp London (BCL).

As well as chipping in with sponsorship, some members of the team are getting their hands dirty helping with the organisation and running of the event. We're also quite excited about the surprise we'll be adding to the swag bag that each of the 300 participants will receive on arrival...

For those people wondering just what this BarCamp thing is, there's a good introduction to BarCamps and what happens at the events for those new to the concept on the BCL site, or a basic synopsis is as follows:

A BarCamp is an open, free-to-attend, participatory unconference. Unconferences differ from conferences in that the schedule is created and filled by the attendees, with everyone running a session or talk about whatever subject they have a passion for. From Cocktail Making to Thermodynamics for Beginners, Arduino Hacking to Photography, BarCamps attract people from all sorts of backgrounds from creative to technical, and stimulate discussion, comment and education outside of attendees spheres of experience.

This is just one small way in which we're attempting to give back to the UK development community that we've been a part of for so long. In addition to the sponsorship, we're aiming to have a number of the team there on the weekend presenting, talking, hacking and learning along with everyone else.

BCL is a fantastic event. Most tickets have already gone, but there are a few more to be release on Monday 1st November. You can find information about ticketing and keep up to date with goings-on of BCL via the BCL8 website and the event Twitter account.

In addition to events such as BCL, members of the globaldev team are regular attendees at both the Reading Geek Night and LRUG among others, so if you'd like to chat with us about anything we're doing, you'll find us there. We've also been known to organise the occasional meet-up of our own...
